Language Arts Language is enhanced as they are encouraged to share their experiences daily. Further enhancement of language is obtained during meeting time, art time, story time and spontaneous child initiated conversations. Children are encouraged to picture read. They are also read to very often. They are taught the different parts of the book, cover, title page, illustrations and also that the writer is called the author and there is an illustrator. Children develop phonological awareness when they hear and explore the sounds and rhythms of language in books. We read from left to right, top to bottom. They learn about books, characters, main ideas, and sequencing. They are encouraged to respond to stories, predict outcomes and relate the story to their own life experiences. Language development is broken down into oral language, written language and comprehension. Children will be made to understand that what you say can be written, and what is written can be read. An example of this is children dictate to teacher, teacher writes and then reads captions and simple sentences. Each category is practiced by following our curriculum guides, careful planning and evaluations. |
